Help us to help the people of Vanuatu

Cyclone Pam wreaked havoc throughout the pristine islands of Vanuatu earlier this month and while the images and stories told in the media no doubt generated feelings of sympathy for most people, for Seashells Hospitality Group Managing Director Paul King the story was a lot more personal.

Paul had the good fortune of sailing through Melanesia during winter last year and fell in love with the ‘happy islands’ and with their people. He visited islands from north to south of Vanuatu, including Dillon’s Bay, Erromango and Tanna Island.

The seasoned traveller was so taken with the country he was looking into land for retirement and for future Seashells Hospitality Group ventures.

“Having been travelling for over 40 years I can honestly say I have not been moved by a country or its people so much as my visit to Vanuatu last year,” Paul said.

“Nowhere else in all my travels have I experienced such generosity from people who have such little material or obvious signs of any wealth that give so much of themselves.

“They were always willing to give us fresh fruit and vegetables, catch fresh lobster, fish and crabs from their surrounds.

“Naturally we became traders with them which is half the fun of visiting theses remote communities and you begin to feel like Captain Cook as some of these villages will not see a visiting yacht or white man in a year.”

Since the cyclone hit, Paul has watched the tragic outcomes and its impact on the islands and people of Vanuatu. He has pledged to donate $5000 to the CARE Australia Cyclone Pam relief fund and asks others to do the same.

“Many of the wonderful ‘Ni Vans’ (Ni-Vanuatu) we met have lost their homes and villages – which were made predominantly of bamboo poles and fronds. Unlike Australian cyclone-affected areas, the Vanuatu people live a very basic earth to mouth existence.

“I am particularly keen to assist the villages we visited in Erromango and Tanna. Many of these villages have been blown away and whilst Dillon’s Bay has reported no fatalities, we are unsure of Port Narvin and the other villages on Erromango and Tanna. Port Resolution in Tanna is where many cruising yachties first arrive in Vanuatu after sailing from Europe, French Polynesia, Tonga and Fiji.

“I appeal to you to consider how lucky we are to be living in a first world country and what we take for granted the peoples of Vanuatu may never have. Please join me and Seashells Hospitality Group in donating to help the people of Vanuatu get their lives back together.

“If you’re a traveller, a lover of life, and an open hearted person with a reasonable income and lifestyle I ask you to join me and Seashells Hospitality Group to donate to help the people of Vanuatu get their lives and wonderful group of islands back together. I can assure you that if you haven’t visited Vanuatu yet I suggest that you do and appreciate what a truly tropical island peoples and country is still like!”

CARE Australia has been working extensively in Tanna and Erromango Islands both pre and post Cyclone Pam and they have created an emergency relief fund for these hardest hit areas. We have a donation page set up specifically for this appeal – and you can find it here.

Mooba coffee and biscuits

Take a [coffee] break at Seashells Mandurah

Mooba pop up at Seashells Mandurah

Mooba pop up at Seashells Mandurah

Guests and visitors to Seashells Mandurah are now able to enjoy a freshly made coffee and treats in the comfort of the property, thanks to the installation of a new pop up Mooba café.

Serving Mooba’s own blend of freshly roasted Five Senses Coffee, plus a range of breakfast treats including toasties, bircher muesli, cookies, slices and freshly toasted banana bread, the pop up café will be open each morning from 14 to 27 April in a trial period.

Mooba owner and manager Mark Dillon said the idea of the pop-up came from his love of creating spaces to relax and enjoy great coffee.

“Mooba is all about finding a space and building a place that is more than a café. For example, in Cockburn we’re based in a sea container, and in Wembley we’re in just a small space that has now become the hub of Wembley.

“I’ve stayed at Seashells Mandurah over the past few years and I felt the addition of a cruisey pop-up cafe would provide a great service to Seashells guests.”

Seashells Mandurah General Manager Bram Newbold said the pop-up café was a great initiative and would provide a new offering to guests.

“Mooba pop-up will provide a place to relax, with both lounge and milk crate seating. Of course, guests are also welcome to take their coffee back up to their rooms to enjoy the beautiful view.

“Based on the response we receive over the two weeks we are hoping to be able to make the pop-up a semi-permanent installation at Seashells Mandurah.”

Guests can place an order from the comfort of their apartment via SMS to 0481 121 786, or take advantage of Seashells Mandurah’s free WiFi and order through the Mooba web app.

Seashells launches generous new loyalty program

Download our App and be rewarded

Download our App and be rewarded

Seashells Hospitality Group is excited to launch a new app-based loyalty program for returning guests.

The program is very simple, and very rewarding. For every 10 nights stayed at any of Seashells’ properties – Broome, Mandurah, Scarborough or Yallingup – guests will receive a $200 gift voucher, which can be used at any property towards their next stay.

Guests just need to download the new Seashells app and the front desk staff at each property will assist in scanning a QR code located at each property’s reception. This will log their stays with the property to go towards their reward.

The Loyalty Program is an ongoing rewards system for all guests staying at Seashells. Every paid night stayed counts, regardless of the rate, and the $200 reward voucher can be used any night of the year – no restrictions apply!

The nights stayed need not be consecutive, nor be at the same property. Points continue to tally, to reward returning guests and thank them for their loyalty.

The Seashells app is available to download now for free through the App Store for iPhone and iPad users, and the Google Play store for Android and tablet users.

For more information on the Loyalty Program visit the Specials page of our website.

Seashells a finalist in the 2010 WA Tourism Awards

Seashells Hospitality Group is excited to make the finals of the 2010 WA Tourism Awards.

We are a finalist in the Tourism Marketing category for our brand refresh, launched in November 2009.

Following research, workshops and industry liaison, we adopted our fresh new brand identity to more accurately represent our range of 4.5 star AAA rated, deluxe apartments located along the West Australian coastline.

The new brand embraces the connection each Seashells property has with the ocean, as well as being a bit whimsical and down-to-earth.  The design continues to incorporate a Nautilus Shell, used in the original logo, as its original connections with the property are still relevant today.

The brand refresh also included new product photography, redesigned marketing collateral, website, signage and display banners, stationery, car decals, e-newsletter, promotional and retail items and will eventually include uniforms and other branded property items.

Winners of the WA Tourism Awards will be announced on Saturday 20th November at a Gala Dinner to be held at the Burswood Entertainment Complex.

Seashells Mandurah is a fashionable choice

Seashells Mandurah provided the perfect backdrop for the Perth Fashion Festival Swimwear parade in September.

Stylist Sylvia Giacci chose Seashells Mandurah to be the setting for a film shoot to introduce the sold-out parade.

There were seven local swimwear labels on display, including Bernice Sara who had already experienced the delights of Seashells Mandurah, selecting the venue for her first fashion shoot in 2009.

The show was held at the Old Gasworks Building and was the festival’s first swimwear parade.  Other WA labels featured were Kooey, Amore & Sorvete, Cebiche, Miss Erika, Ocean Zone and We Heart Vintage.

Seashells is proud to support Western Australia’s creative talents.

Business as usual for Seashells Yallingup & Caves House

Business as usual for Seashells Yallingup and Caves House

Seashells Hospitality Group, which operates Caves House Hotel and Seashells Yallingup as part of its award-winning Western Australian property group, will operate as usual during the sale of Caves House.

The historic hotel is on the market following Yallingup Ridge Pty Ltd, an entity established for the purpose of developing the Seashells Yallingup Resort and adjoining lands, was placed into the hands of the receivers late in 2009.

This appointment had no effect on the day-to-day trading of either Seashells Yallingup Resort or Caves House Pty Ltd. These properties are completely separate entities and they continue to trade as they have in the past.

Seashells Hospitality Group is not connected to the receivership of Yallingup Ridge Pty Ltd other than it manages Caves House and this will continue until such time as a purchaser is confirmed.

The sale has come about as a result of the global financial crisis with banks stopping lending prior to the development of the additional stages.

Over the past six months, a consortium of investors has been assembled by Accommodation West working with CB Richard Ellis. This consortium has purchased all unsold Seashells Yallingup apartments and placed them in the letting pool with Seashells.

This same consortium of owners is also seeking to extend their interest further by purchasing from the receivers the Caves House property and adjoining development land. This process involves the Receiver advertising the remaining properties, being Caves House and the adjoining development land, for sale by expression of interest.

Seashells manages and markets a range of 4 1/2 star AAA rated, apartment-style tourism accommodation in Yallingup, Mandurah, Scarborough and Broome.
