Movember Update!

Movember – Changing the face of men’s health.

The Movember Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organisation which runs the men’s health initiative, Movember – the month formerly known as November – a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health.

Movember 09

Seashells team Paul King (Managing Director), Gareth Thomas (Director of Operations) and Nathan Parker (Front Office Manager, Seashells Yallingup & Caves House) proudly participated in Movember this year, raising $2,400 in donations for the Movember Foundation, and extend a huge thank you to all those who generously supported us.

The Movember event is designed to raise funds, awareness and support for men’s health issues and Movember’s partners: The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative. Many people aren’t aware that close to 3,000 men die of prostate cancer each year in Australia and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime – many of whom don’t seek help. Movember is now in its sixth year and, to date, has raised AUD$62 million globally for the fight against prostate cancer and depression in men, achieving some pretty amazing results. Seashells’ artists collect their life-size cows for CowParade Margaret River

Seashells’ artists collect their life-size cows for CowParade Margaret River

WA artists Emma Blyth and Kylie Porter-Rath came face to face with their most challenging canvases this week when they took delivery of their CowParade Margaret River life-size cows.

Emma and Kylie were selected by CowParade Margaret River Official Hotel Partner, Seashells Hospitality Group, to each paint a cow that will be exhibited at Caves House and Seashells Yallingup during the event, which takes place from 1 March to 27 June 2010.

These cows will be two of up to 100 being painted for exhibition, or ‘out to pasture’ around the Margaret River region in what is one of the world’s most famous public art events.

These fibreglass cows will not stay white for long. Both of the Seashells cows will be painted in in iconic West Australian imagery, with Emma’s to reflect the colours of the Kimberley, and Kylie’s inspiration – the WA Wheatbelt.

Emma said the Australian outback inspired her with it’s unique colours, remoteness and wildlife.

“My cow canvas will show cockies flying over our spectacular Bungle Bungles, kangaroos hopping over the rich red Kimberley dust and colourful wildflowers glowing in the hot sun,” she said.

Kylie said her cow would portray the beautiful West Australian Wheatbelt, capturing its symphony of abundant life.

“My contemporary style of painting is rich with detail and vibrant colour inspired by the Australian spirit – reflecting my experience and personal connection with the Australian countryside having grown up in the Wheatbelt, and travelling extensively through regional Australia.

“I think Australia is still the land of opportunity for those who are prepared to follow their dream.

Kylie and Emma both have a longtime connection with Seashells, each having artwork featured throughout each of Seashells’ 4.5 star apartments in Mandurah, Broome, Scarborough and Yallingup.

Other artists busying themselves with blank bovines include renown Australian artists Ken Done and Robert Juniper.

Visit www.seashells.com.au and the Caves House and Seashells Facebook pages for updates on Emma and Kylie’s progress and for more information on CowParade Margaret River go to www.margaretriver.com.
